Show Notes

Think back to the last time you hosted a barbecue or dinner party. Maybe it was to celebrate a birthday or anniversary? Or maybe it was a reception to celebrate a wedding? Maybe it was a holiday gathering for Canada Day or 4th of July? Maybe it was simply to celebrate pandemic restrictions being lifted and being able to gather again?

Now think about your guest list. Who was on it, and why? What made those people so important that you invited them to your barbecue, dinner party, banquet or reception? All of them likely had some sort of relational ties to you; either friends or family, neighbours or coworkers.

Imagine that everyone received the invite but didn’t show up. What would you do then? Would you scrap the whole thing and cancel the event? Or would you invite other, less-likely or maybe even less-liked guests? Those people who would never receive an invite, but now they’re your guests. Would you welcome them as such?

Today, we’ll study Luke 14, and Jesus’ instruction on hosting a dinner or banquet, and who we should be inviting. Moreover, we’ll unpack what this parable means to us on an eternal level!
